A suite of surfaces. Slick, soft, smooth and shimmering, textured and layered; depicting scenes and senses, topography and anthropology.
A group of pictures whose divergent materials and techniques are linked by their preoccupation with surface, where Tim Bučković’s labyrinthine-like application of oils move into Jelena Telecki’s sensual and slippery use of the same medium, both fused with Eastern-bloc tendencies. To the mechanic impulses of Jonny Niesche and Simone Griffin, with the former’s sublime combination of delicate fabrics soaked in ink, sitting in dialogue with the sprayed cosmic overlay of Griffin’s dense paintings interweaving stories and memories. Alongside these, works from Patrick Hartigan, whose interweaving of abstraction and figuration presents the artist’s heightened curiosity towards materials that leads to their distinctive outcomes.
This group of artists circumnavigate differing surfaces, pushing and pulling with both the traditional and atypical.
Sitting in the context of the historic room will also be a presentation of Lewis Fidock & Joshua Petherick’s “WAR”, faceless heads of hair rolling throughout the space to a haunting soundtrack.
